THE SURF VILLAGE – TAGHAZOUT

The Taghazout Surf legend was born in the late 70’s with the arrival of some surfers and hippies.

The small fishing village is located only 20 km north from Agadir and a 40 minutes drive from Agadir Airport. Since European hippies found this gem in the early 70s, it has become a mecca for surfers from all around the globe. Only one step away from the best surf spots. The changing light and tide, the enchanting streets… the colours, and the magical scent of tea. Where the moon is always out and all ways lead to the beach!

From September to April, the region benefits from a constant swell creating world class waves at various famous spots such as Anchor Point, Killer Point or Boiler. Our extensive coastline provides a variety of waves for the beginner surfer through to the pro surfer – even during the summer there is swell to enjoy. You’ll need mostly summer beach clothes such as shorts, t-shirts, singlets, bathing gear, sandals. Bring a pair of jeans and a jumper too for the evenings. A towel (we don’t supply these), passport, camera, hat, sunnies, suntan lotion. You’re sorted.

Yes, we do, so be sure to ask us our reception in the morning. But you can always bring an extra one, especially for the beach.

There’s surf all year round, but it really picks up over the winter months from Nov-Feb. The sun shines for 300 days on average in a year, so it’s sunny! The weather in summer is hot with temps averaging around 35 Celsius, but with some days going into the high 40’s. The water is also warmer, so a thin wetsuit is all you need or just a rashy and board-shorts. In winter, the average temp is around 20 Celsius, so still not cold. It gets chillier in the mornings and evenings and the water is decidedly colder, so a wetsuit is a must, unless you’re super hard-core.

We rent a range of long boards, short boards, mals, mini-mals, and foam-topped long boards for beginners. You are welcome to bring your own if you have as well. All types of boards can be used here as there are so many different reef, beach and point breaks.

Taghazout has many restaurants, surf shops, surfboard repair places, a pharmacy, a Laundromat, a butcher’s, various little mini-markets, and once a week a traditional market. There is also wireless access at some of the cafes and a bus to Agadir every half hour from 10am-8pm for only 8 Dirhams.
